Dorchester County Animal Control

Dorchester County community enforcement officers are responsible for conducting investigations and enforcing Dorchester County Ordinances related to the regulation of animals and animal owners and keepers in the interest of the health, safety, and welfare of the citizens of the county. Summer Trace is located in Hurricane Evacuation Zone – ZONE D. The South Carolina Emergency Management Division has an excellent app for your phone which can provide a lot of useful information – SCEMD Mobile App The South Carolina Department of Transportation also provides a great app which can help you identify evacuation routes and traffic congestion in real time with live video streams of major thoroughfares 511sc.org (click on “More” for a link to the app).

Community Emergency Response Team:

A Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is a group of volunteers who are trained to assist their community in the event of natural or man-made disasters when emergency services may not be immediately available. CERT is about readiness, people helping people, and doing the greatest good for the community. Residents who complete the CERT training will be more capable and ready to respond to emergency and disaster situations.

Otters

Otters, while cute and furry, pose a significant danger to people, small children, and pets. Otters have been spotted in our pond and we and monitoring the situation. Please be careful if you see an otter, they can attack you and cause significant bodily damage. Be mindful of your pets, keep an eye on them while outdoors. Otters have been videoed killing panthers, jaguars, raccoons, geese, ducks, you name it. If you notice otters on your property please let us know, it might help us secure the pond from these animals. Otters can also carry rabies which would make their behavior erratic, aggressive, and very dangerous.
